You may not want to hear that not everybody wants your product. Because we are taught the concept that our product or our company is perfect. This is a concept that is very prevalent in the network marketing industry. I think this concept needs to go away, quite frankly!
The Truth Is That Not Everybody Wants Your Product or Company
Too often, when we are recruiting people into our business, we tell the prospect that this product is so good that we really don’t even need to try to sell it. Everybody is going to want this, everybody needs this. So everybody is going to buy this. We also say that this is the perfect company. We can’t even comprehend why anybody would NOT want this product or company!
In reality, there are no perfect products, there are no perfect companies. You are going to find warts in all of them. When we tell our prospects about how easy it is going to be because everybody is going to want these products, we are not being truthful. Because the truth is…not everybody is going to want your product. They’re not all going to even NEED your product.
The same thing is true about your company. Not everybody is going to want what you have to offer. It is a mistake to build the new network marketer’s expectation that this business is going to be real easy because everybody is going to want to buy, and that everybody is going to want to join.
There are no perfect products. Even if you had a perfect product that cured cancer, you cannot say that it does! Even if it was true! If you claim that your product can cure any disease, you can get you and your company in trouble.
Get it out of your mind that you have a perfect product or a perfect company, because there are going to be warts in all of them. And when people join your company thinking everything is perfect, and then when something negative does show up, they are likely to be disappointed and discouraged. Maybe to the point of wanting to quit. It is something that was unexpected, and they don’t know how to deal with it. So don’t set up those expectations.
There are no perfect products. There are no perfect companies. Every one of them has warts. Not everybody wants your product or your company.
Why Wouldn’t Everybody Want Your Product?
For example, suppose that you have a high-end product in the skin care or vitamin supplement industry. The people who usually get their products from a big box store and pay $10 to $20 for their product are not going to want or see a need for your $40 to $50 product. Unless you can demostrate the value of your high-end product, those people are not going to be interested in your product.
Even the biggest companies in the world that have the best products do not have everybody as their customer. But they have enough people that DO like their product that they are able to make a nice proft. And that is your goal. Not everybody is going to be your customer or join your team. Not everybody wants your product or your opportunity. But you can have just enough interested people that you can make a nice living.
So don’t tell new network marketers that it is going to be easy for them. Don’t tell them that everybody is going to want to buy the product and join the business. Because it is simply not the case. And the disappointment they feel when they find out the truth will destroy your credibility as a sponsor.
Now, this concept that not everybody is going to want your product appears also when we take our marketing online. Sometimes we just “throw something up there” online. We broadcast to the whole online world about what we have to offer. Yes, that works sometimes. I’m not going to dispute that. People have made a lot of money doing network marketing in all kinds of ways. So I’m not going to say that it doesn’t work.
What I’m saying is that maybe there is a better way. Again, not everybody out there in Facebook land is going to want what you have to offer. Not everybody wants your product, they are not going to want your company.
So What Can You Do if Not Everybody Wants Your Product?
So the thing to do is to figure out a way to sort out those people and find the one who DO want what you have to offer. Because not everybody does. But there are some that DO. Your job is to find those that do and share your product with them. If you do that, your conversion rate and your success rate will increase dramatically! You will be talking to people who already have a need or have a want for what you have to offer.
So, how do you do that?
You don’t do it by randonly posting online asking people to buy your product or join your company. Remember, not everybody wants your product! Be a little more selective about who you are promoting your product to.
I suggest that you go online to find more friends! Find new people that you can talk to. Because you do need people to talk to. Go online, find people, talk to them, and become friends with them. If you become friends, you can talk to them in a natural sort of way and find out what their needs and wants are. You might find that some of their wants and needs can be solved by your product and company.
If you know that they have a particular need, and THEY know that they have a particular need, it makes that sale so much easier. Your conversion rate will go through the roof.
So this is my approach. Go online, find new friends, find new people that you can talk to. And if they don’t become your customer or they don’t become your team mate, they still become your friends. You still have something in common, and you still have things that you can talk about.
Who doesn’t need more friends, right? We all need more friends.
Approach it from the perspective that you are not out to make a sale. You are not out to convert these people to your company, you’re out to make a friend. And SOME of those friends are going to have a want, they are going to have a need for your product.
Then when you do make them an offer, it is going to be more natural. It’s going to feel better to you. You are not going to feel like you are hyping or spamming them. For both you and the person you are talking to, it’s just going to feel nicer. It will feel more comfortable.
And if it is more comfortable, you are going to do it more often! If you do it more often, you’re going to get more customers, sales, and new network marketers. It’s a natural win-win.
Summary For Why Not Everbody Wants Your Product
Get away from telling people that you have a perfect product or opportunity that everybody is going to want. Stop setting up that expectation. Not everybody is your prospect. Not everybody wants your product. Instead, have some way to sort out the people who have an interest in your product from the ones who have NO interest in your product. If you make your pitch to someone who has NO interest in your product, you do our industry a disfavor. You are creating a negative opinion for those who MIGHT have been a prospect if they would have been appproached a little differently.
Approach it with the idea that you are going to find friends. I can teach you how to find friends on Facebook as I do that everyday. Find friends, but don’t have the idea that you are going to sell them any thing. Because in most cases, you will not. The law of averages says that you will go through a bunch of no’s before you find a yes. That is just part of the business. Not everybody is going to say yes.
Make a friend first. If you have a lot of friends, SOME of those friends ARE going to want what you have to offer. You’re job is to find them by being a friend and building a relationship. You do it in a natural way.
