Have you ever had a recruit or someone you’re trying to get into your business say, “yeah, I’m really excited! I think this is just the thing for me! I’m going to join you, and I’m just really going to blow the socks off of everybody! I’m going to really succeed at this business ……. as soon as I pay off this debt. As soon as school is out, and my kids are out of school. Because I’m running around, doing all these activities now”

“I just don’t have time right now. So I’m going to wait till the kids are out of school. “
Then next thing you know there is a, “well, you know, I’m going to wait until school starts because with the kids here, I am running them everywhere, and I just don’t have the time. I’m going to wait until I graduate. I’m going to wait until I pay this bill. I’m going to wait until whatever the thing is.”
You’ve heard this, haven’t you? You’ve had people tell you that, right? That they’re going to start? Or maybe they do start, and they say, “I’m going to just really going to go bonkers on this business. I’m going to go to town….. just as soon as.“ And doesn’t that just kind of grab you? Kind of twists you, and you just shake your head at him, you know, because you’re thinking, “Oh man, this guy doesn’t get it!”
But do you do that to yourself? Do you find yourself doing that as well? You know, you already have a business and you’re thinking, “you know, I already know how to do this business. I’m going to do it. I just,…… I just need to wait just a few more weeks, until I get this taken care of. I need to wait until I pay this bill. I can’t buy the kit or this training material until I pay this bill, until I get out of debt, until my mother in law leaves.
You know, there’s all kinds of excuses we give ourselves as to why we can’t get started right away. And you know it bugs you when your recruits tell you that. And so quite naturally, it probably should bug you if you’re doing that very same thing.
So let me tell you a story. It may be a true story, but probably it’s not! But the moral! The moral of the story is true.
It involves my neighbor. My neighbor by the name of Oscar. Yeah. Oscar! You know, of course, the names have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty. But Oscar, he told me that he’s going to go on a road trip with his family. It’s like a long road trip. Eight hours, you know; and so it’s a pretty extensive. He will start out and he is going to have to cross through the current town we live in. And then once he gets out of our town, you can bet in eight hours time, that there’s gonna be some other towns and other cities that he is going to have to pass through.
So I knew about this road trip they were going to take. So one day I’m out in the yard, and I’m doing some weeding. Then I see the family, they’re packing up the car. This was the day that they’re going to get started on their road trip, and they’re going to go somewhere and do whatever it is that they were going to do. Right? So they are packing up the car, and they finally get it all packed, and everybody crawls in. They’re making the last minute adjustments, and then they just sit there.
I think, “Oh, okay. Some families say a prayer before they go on a road trip, you know. Maybe they’re making sure they have all the water bottles, or are making sure everybody’s got everything.” And so, you know, I didn’t think much of it. So I just continue weeding in my garden and weeding my lawn. About 10 minutes later, I happened to notice that that are still sitting in the driveway!
They haven’t left, and I start thinking “Well, maybe there must be something more wrong here than what I thought!” So being the good neighbor that I am, and I am a good neighbor; I walked over, and I tapped on the window and said, “Hey, what’s going on here?” And he said, “well yeah, we’re leaving on a road trip!” And I’m thinking, “well great, good. You know, I noticed, you know, you’ve been sitting here for awhile. Is there anything wrong?” He said, “no, no, no, no, nothing’s wrong!, But I want to wait till the lights are green. I don’t want to have to stop. I wanted to be able to go and not have any obstacles. I just don’t want to stop. I’ll wait until all the lights are green.
You know what I’m thinking, What?? you’re waiting until all the lights are green?? What kind of a deal is this?”
I kept thinking, “well, you know, there’s a light like two blocks down. I told him, “well, you know, you could just go ahead and start and go to that light, and by the time you get there, it might be green and then you’re on your way. If not, well, you can just wait until the light does turn green.
He said, “no, no! If I go, that light is going to stop me, and I’ll have to waste some time just waiting there at that light. And then, of course, that’s only the first light out of many. When I get to the next light, it might be red and I’m going to have to stop. I’m just going to have all these obstacles along the way, and I’m going to have all these red lights that are going to stop me and so on and so on.”
You do know where I’m going with this, right?
Isn’t it really foolish to wait until you’re sure that all the lights between here and wherever you’re going are green? That’s just not the way we do it, right? We start out, we go to the first light; and it may be red, it may be green. But if it’s red, we just kind of stop and wait, because we know, at some point, it’s going to turn green. Then we just go on, and we don’t worry about whether the next light is going to be red or not. We just go as far as we can.
When something stops us, it’s like a red light. We wait until conditions are changed, the light turns green, and we move on, and eventually, we reach our destination. We get to where we’re going. Right? And that’s the lesson I hope Oscar learned that day.
You can’t wait until all the lights are green before you progress, or before you go on.
But yet, I bet there are a lot of you who do this. Not just in your online marketing business, but also just generally in your life.
I bet there are a lot of times that you do this. I know I do it. There are a lot of times when you’re thinking in your head, “you know, I’d like to do this, but if I do that, then I’m going to have to do this, and that’s gonna be a problem. I’m going to run across this obstacle.”
And so we end up talking ourselves out of really taking some action! In our mind, we think, “you know, someday I’m going to do this. Someday I’m going to buy the kit, and I’m going to start my own business, and I’m going to get out of this rut! This rat race that I’m in.
Then when you get the kit, you’re thinking, “someday I’m going to start contacting people. I’m going to start getting some training. I’m really going to start learning how to do this, and I’m going to make progress. I’m going to have success.
But, as so often happens, we run across those frustrating red lights. They’re hanging above us, and they have stopped us, and sometimes, that just kills our incentive. We need to realize and understand that just because this light is red, it doesn’t mean that it’s always going to be red. In fact, it’s probably going to turn green at some point. And so, you move on, and you come to the next light and it may be red, but it’s going to turn green at some point. We don’t stop our overall progress and just quit just because we run across some red lights along the way. The red lights symbolize obstacles or anything that stops us from doing what it is that we need to do.
So here’s what you need to do. You need to take positive action. and that’s how you progress. If you’re thinking, “you know, I can’t do this because this is a hurdle, “this becomes a problem.
You just start, you just begin. That’s how you get back on your feet. That’s how you get moving, and you move as far as you can! You know, maybe that’s a little distance. Maybe it’s ways. Maybe it’s a long ways! But you go as far as you can to that point. And then, when you get to that point where you stopped, you, you learn some other things, or you kind of take inventory of where you’re at, You take some more training. You just keep going on, and you just don’t stop and quit!
If something needs to be done, waiting is only going to make your situation worse. You just keep going, okay? You run across the red lights, and you don’t let them stop you and keep you from progressing. They might make you wait momentarily, but you don’t turn around and go home, right? You keep on going. There’s going to be problems in your business. There’s going to be problems in your everyday life that you going to run across. You can’t let those stop them. Think of them as the red lights, and how foolish it would be to stop and turn around and go home, just because you came across the red light on your way to your destination, whatever that destination might be.
So, when you come to your first problem, you solve it. You don’t let it stop you like a red light.
You solve it, and then when you get that solved, you move on as far as you can until you come to another obstacle or another problem. You solve it. You figure out a way to get around it. You figure out a way to make the light green, and you solve it. You solve the problem and suddenly, if you look back to see how far you’ve come, you’ll notice that, “hey, I have come a ways! I’ve made some progress. I am no longer where I used to be. I’m moving forward. I’m making progress. I move, I’m coming closer and closer to my goal…to my destination!” Now, it may not be coming as fast as you would like. You might not be progressing as fast as you’d like. But as long as when you come to an obstacle, you solve it….you move on.
You’re making progress, you’re going forward! And if you keep doing that, eventually you’re going to get to where you want to be. Okay?
The Moral of the Story
So the moral of the story, and the moral for Oscar … Stop waiting for things to be perfect before you move. Stop waiting for things to be perfect. Just start! Start doing something! Start with a small things, okay?
If you’re worried about your business and you think, “you know, I’m going to do this just as soon as I learn how to do it. Don’t! Don’t wait until you’ve learned it all! Learn a little bit, and put that into play. Put that into practice and move forward. And when you come to your next problem, you solve that. Maybe you need to start a blog. You just start, and you learn as you go. You progress, and every time you learn something, you implement that, and you move forward.
Maybe you need to learn how to talk to people or how to approach people. You just start! Just do it! You might run into a roadblock, but you just learn from your experience. You learn from your activity.
So start now! Get going! Your destination is out there waiting for you to arrive. You can’t let the light stop you. Don’t let the light stop you, because it’s your journey. It’s your destination, and it’s yours to achieve. You just have to start and keep going when the obstacles come. Figure out the way around them and just keep moving. Keep moving forward.
